Think I am cute? You should see all the dogs we have for adoption right now! Visit our webpage: PAWS Dogs

Dear PAWS Supporters,

The volunteers at PAWS (as well as the dogs!) would like to wish each and every one of you a Happy Holiday season! We have been very busy over the last few months and hope you will enjoy reading over the newsletter and finding out what we have been up to! We are still offering our Happy Tails DVDs as a PAWS fundraiser and think they make a great holiday gift for any animal lover. The DVD features an hour long slideshow of our "Happy Tails"- we have hundreds of before pictures of our dogs in the pound and after pictures of them with their new families. We know you will enjoy the show immensely! The DVDs are $25.00. If you would like to purchase a DVD, please use one of the payment methods listed below. Be sure to send a follow up email to kesalerno@gmail.com with your home address.
Again, we hope during this often much too hectic time of year, you will stop for a moment and pat yourself on the back. For many of these dogs- this will be the first holiday that they will spend out of the cold and with a family who loves them. For most, this is the first time that someone will think to buy them a present, or give them a blanket and bed during the frigid winter months. To me, there is nothing more gratifying than knowing that hundreds of PAWS dogs have received the greatest gift of all: love.

Many thanks,
Kelly Parker

How To Make A Holiday Donation

The volunteers at PAWS have been extremely busy over the last few weeks trying to pull as many dogs from the Tipton pound as possible. With funds short and space at the clinic limited because so many people board their dogs this time of year, many dogs are getting left behind at the pound and being put to sleep. It kills us that so many more dogs are euthanized this time of year because of these factors. We hope that this newsletter will help find us some more foster homes and that families will considering donating to help us fund the veterinary care of new dogs coming in. We know that funds are so tight around the holidays, but if you would consider donating to help our mission- we are so tremendously grateful for any help we can get! Here are three easy ways to donate to PAWS:

Thank you so much for your tremendous generosity! Now read below to find out what the donations are being used for!

Featured Dog- Meet Julie!

Hello, my name is Julie and I am a 5 pound Chihuahua mix. I have had quite a life! I was in a high kill shelter in rural TN where some very nice people rescued me and took me to a vet clinic. I was in bad shape when I got to the clinic and almost died from being dehydrated and malnourished.

The vet clinic got me all better- but then they found out I had a heart murmur that is going to require pretty extensive surgery. I am not scared, because they told me that I am in great health now and young enough to be a great surgical candidate. But, I know the rescue group is stressing out because the surgery is going to cost $3,000.00. I was wondering if you would make a donation (you can even take one of the DVDs home with you as our thank you!) to help me get the surgery I need. I promise I am worth it and will make someone the most wonderful doggie!!!!

If you would like to donate to Julie's heart surgery please choose one of the methods of donating described above. We would be tremendously grateful if you would hang this poster at your local coffee shop, your office, your school, your local pet store, or any other location that you think would help us raise money for this precious little girl. Please also email Kelly if you would like to be included on an email list that will update people on her progress.

Update on Last Month's Needy Dogs

Carmen is currently at Hillcrest Animal Hospital safe and receiving heartworm treatment. She will be ready to go to a new home at the end of December. If you know any families looking for the most incredible chocolate lab who is completely trained- please have them get in touch with us about Miss Carmen! All of her babies were adopted locally!

Dewey has also been pulled from Hillcrest and is awaiting his forever family. The vet techs just love him and say he is the sweetest boy ;)

Phil has been pulled and will be making the trip up to New England this weekend to be fostered with the one and only Mrs. Kate Bean ;) And Petey was adopted locally.

From our special needs cases, Alice and Timmy continue to do beautifully! (Thank you Michelle and Cynthia!)! Alice was our little girl that began our slew of three legged dogs and Timmy was our little boy who was thrown from a high speed car.

Barney has been adopted by his wonderful Mom Cynthia, who sent us this picture! You will remember that Barney was literally minutes away from being euthanized because he had developed an infection secondary to someone trying to cut his tail off.

Mister B also went to a great family! He was our three legged petite pit bull that we took into our rescue because the local shelter couldn't afford his amputation surgery. A big thank you to his Mom Christine who adopted her first ever dog with us ;)

Finally, Leon is doing much better and has finished her heartworm treatment. His leg muscles continue to grow stronger and now all he needs is some meat on his bones and a family to adopt him! Leon, as you will remember, was shot in the leg. If you know anyone looks for a gorgeous Redbone Coonhound, please have them email us!

Thank you to everyone who made these stories into Happy Endings!!!

An Extraordinary Act of Kindness!

Meet Ms. Mele's (a former adopter of the precious Princess Mia!) class. They are a group of 8th graders from a high risk section of Connecticut who decided to do whatever the could to help the Tipton Dogs. Michelle Mele held a class fundraiser and asked the kids to help. Many of these children brought in their allowance money and took on extra chores at their homes to raise money for the Tipton dogs. The PAWS coordinators nearly choked the day we received an email from Michelle saying that these kids had raised $560.00 and brought in tons of treats and toys for the dogs. Every time we think about what Michelle and her class did, it brings tears to our eyes.

The kids decided to put the money towards one of our terrible abuse cases: Dominic and Nina. Dominic and Nina are two Bassett Hounds who came to the pound in such awful shape; they were covered with skin infections, heartworm positive, both had double eye infections, and were horribly malnourished. It has been a long road, but Nina will be going to her new forever home this weekend and Dominic will traveling to his forever home immediately after Christmas (he was so heavily invested with heartworm, that he needed a two month split treatment). We at PAWS will never be able to convey our gratitude to this special teacher and students who gave everything they had to improve the lives' of impoverished, hopeless dogs.

We need foster families!

As we mentioned in our holiday donation section, this is a very difficult time of year for the dogs in the pound. As a rescue, our funds are stretched so thin and the number of boarding spots at the clinic are limited because so many people board their dogs while they travel for the holidays. It absolutely kills us that so many more dogs are put down this time of year because of our limited foster/ vet clinic space. If you would be interested in helping us, please email for a foster application. Foster families are provided with food for their foster dogs and all vet bills are covered by our group. The average foster lasts about 2-3 weeks. Our foster families have a big hand in helping us choose the best applicant for the dog and families can be as much or as little involved in processing applications of the potential adopters. Thank you!

PAWS Giving Tree/ How to Donate to PAWS While Shopping for Your Baby!

PAWS would like to thank Dawn and Jeff at the Natural Dog in Newburyport, MA. Not only have they helped us out with donations of food and treats, but they are putting up a PAWS Giving Tree up in the store. Customers will have the ability to take an ornament off the tree that has a PAWS dog's picture on it. The ornament will include "request" for a present that they need (ie: bed, sweater, toy, treat!). We know that many people do not live anywhere near Newburyport, but perhaps would like to participate. If so, we are doing virtual ornaments and would be happy to email you with a specific doggie and their Christmas wish for you to sponsor them for the holiday. Please email Kelly for further details. Thank you so much!
