THE BIG GUYS (45 POUNDS AND ABOVE)
SONNY
Age: 2 years
Sex: Male
Weight: 60 pounds
Breed: Samoyed or Spitz Mix
Activity Level: Medium
Children: Unknown, but we are happy to test him!
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Unknown
Housebroken: Unknown
Medical: Sonny is neutered, up to date on his shots, and has received
his first round of heartworm treatment. If Sonny needs a follow up
treatment in six weeks, we have contracted with a vet in Plymouth to
give him his final shot at the discounted rescue rate.
Notes: Poor Sonny was overlooked so many times at the shelter. He
waited so very patiently and we finally had to have him pulled because
the shelter was going to put him down to make room for more dogs. Sonny
was so sweet and so patient, we simply could not let this happen. He is
a big boy and it is hard to find his body under all that hair!!!
BOSLEY
Bosley is an absolutely gorgeous 1 year old male Pointer mix - his colorings are fantastic in person and do not show up on his photos. He weighs approx 40 lbs and has a fairly high activity level although he does settle down when it's time. Bosley is in love with the the children he has met since arriving. He seems to really like them, and while he does need to be trained not to jump up on adults (and other dogs) in his excitement, he becomes very calm and gentle around kids . . . he puts his ears back, and stands still, lets them pet him, and after they've pet him for a bit, he nuzzles their face.
Bos does scratch on the door now (in terms of housebreaking), and he's now learned "sit" and does it very reliably. He is great with other dogs; his exposure to cats has been limited but his current mom says that he ignored the one he met recently but this requires more investigation.
Even seasoned dog owners are impressed by Bosley’s
sweet and approachable manner. He is continuously happy, alert, responsive on
lead, a total love bug and well-mannered inside, and boisterous when given a
chance to play. He is an active boy that
needs a family who will give him the exercise he needs. He would make an
excellent jogging partner as he is great on a leash. Needless to say, he is the
portrait of the perfect family dog.
Bosley wants, more than anything, to be the part of an
active family. He loves attention though he is not needy and is content just to
be nearby. (This poor boy was stuck in a shelter and then in an animal hospital
for almost three months!)If you are
interested in adopting this boy, please email for an adoption application. His
adoption fee is $300 to cover some of
the costs he incurred while he was treated and boarded at the animal hospital.
Medical: Bosley is neutered, up to date on his shots, and ready to go!

FINNIAS
FINNIAS
Age: 1-2 years
Sex: Male
Weight: 80 pounds
Breed: Purebred Husky with Blue Eyes
Activity Level: High
Children: We are happy to test him, but Finnias is very jumpy and would probably not be good with small children.
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Unknown
Housebroken: Unknown
Medical: Neutered, current on shots, HW negative
Notes: We have decided what this boy needs is a home full of rambunctious teenagers who will romp around and play with him in the yard. Finnias is a dog that will need a go, go, go lifestyle and always have someone around to pay attention to him. He is a gorgeous boy that has a dark line around his neck from where he was obviously chained his whole life. Who can blame him for never wanting to be tossed aside and neglected ever again? Finnias would do best in a fenced in back yard and will need some work on his leash manners. He will, however, be an exceptionally loyal and wonderful dog to the family who gives this beautiful boy a chance!

Weight: 45 pounds
Breed: Lab/Plott hound or Greyhound Mix (brindle coat)
Activity Level: High (very athletic!)

Cats: No
Housebroken: 100% Housebroken, Crate Trained, and uses Doggy Door
Medical: Spayed, current on vaccinations, HW negative

treatment on 4/14. If Sid still tests positive for heartworm in five more
weeks, we have contracted with a vet in Plymouth to give the final shot
and follow up care for a reduced rate.
Notes: Sid is just a doll- the techs at the clinic tell us that he is very sweet and loving. Sid waited almost two months to be saved at the pound. No one came to get this boy even though he behaved so well. The workers at the pound kept overlooking him on euthanization days, hoping that Sid would find someone to love him. Well, when they put his name on the list finally, we decided that we absolutely would not let that happen. Please open your home to this patient and precious baby..
If you would like to help Sid, but can not adopt him, please consider making a donation to go towards his heartworm treatment! Sid thanks you so very much!
NECIE
Sex: Female
Weight: 50 pounds
Breed: Lab Mix
Activity Level: High
Children: Unknown at this time, but we are happy to test her!
Dogs: Necie appears to not get along well with other dogs at the clinic. This may be due to the stressful situation of being in a kennel and she may just be protecting her space, but we think it is best that she go to an only dog home.
Cats: Unknown
Housebroken: Unknown
Medical: Spayed, current on shots, started HW treatment. Necie will
need a follow up test in five weeks to see if she needs a final shot. If
she does, he will receive that shot at a discounted price.

If
you would like to help Necie, but can not adopt her, please consider
making a donation to go towards her heartworm treatment! Necie thanks
you so very much! Be sure to include Necie's name, so we can apply the

Activity Level: Medium
Children: Unknown at this time, but we are happy to test him!

Notes: Kemper is just an absolute love who is very timid and sweet. He was found at an awful pound where he was left alone with a number of other dogs in horrific conditions. He has been doing great at the animal hospital and will do great with a family that will give him the love and affection that he so deserves and has never had.
Kemper is also just as good of a little patient as we could ask for! He did not so much as budge when he was receiving any of his injections and he has not barked once since arriving at the animal hospital!
If you would like to help Kemper, but can not adopt him, please consider making a donation to go towards his heartworm treatment! Kemper thanks you so very much! Be sure to include Kemper's name, so we can apply the donation appropriately!

Cats: Unknown
Housebroken: Unknown
Medical: Spayed, current on shots, started HW treatment on 3/26/07; being treated for sarcoptic mange
Note: OK, if you are a sucker for a sad story get ready. Tetra was found at the bottom of a dog pile. She was trying to get at a food bowl that was to high and the other dogs were attacking her for trying to eat and drink. A volunteer grabbed this little girl and brought her immediately to the animal hospital where is was not only found that she was heartworm positive, but that she has mange. It will be anywhere between 3-6 weeks for Tetra to be able to be adopted out as she is getting a weekly dip for her mange and has already started her heartworm treatment. However, when this little girl is ready to go, we want her in the arms of someone who will spoil her rotten and let her know that she needs never starve, hurt, and be cold ever again. If you want to take this little love bug home when she has been fixed up, please send us an application!

TRACKER
Tracker was found on the side of the street, shot and starving yesterday. He was rushed to the animal hospital to tend to his wounds. The vet techs could not get over how incredibly gentle and loving he was as they were poking and prodding around his wound. He never so much as grumbled. They said he just seemed grateful for their loving touch :(
Update: Tracker's leg is NOT broken! The bullet has lodged in he kneecap, but remarkably, nothing has broken. He is on heavy painkillers and IV antibiotics because his wound is infected and inflamed, but we think he is going to be just fine. As soon as he is cleared medically, we would like Tracker in a home so he can begin to put on some much needed weight. This little boy has been starved and shot and deserves nothing less than a family that will baby and coddle him for the rest of his life. Tracker is 3-4 years old and 39.1 pounds. We believe he is a coonhound mix and he is up to date on his shots. Sadly, Tracker also tested positive for heartworm on top of everything else this poor boy has been through and he will begin his treatment on on April 25. Tracker has been neutered.
Tracker's official bio will be coming soon, but if you would like to make a donation towards his care, please click here. Be sure to include Tracker's name, so we can apply the donation appropriately!

Activity: High
Children: Unknown, but we are happy to test him!
Dogs: Great
Cats: Great
Housebroken: No
Medical: Vaccines up to date
Comments:Norman is a very playful and energetic, sweet pup. This little guy has a neat story.. During the terrible storms last week, a woman in Memphis heard some scratching at her door. When she opened up the door- little bouncy Norman walked right in as if he owned the place. She could not keep him because her apartment would not allow pets, but she could not bear to send him to the pound where he would surely be killed. Lucky for Norman, he got a first class ticket straight to Hillcrest where he is awaiting a family who will love him and never leave him out in the pouring rain again!
DAKOTA

BO
Age: 1.5- 2 years
Sex: Male
Weight: 38.3 pounds
Breed: Lab Mix
Activity Level: High
Children: As he is so timid, we would definitely have to test Bo before making any decisions about him and children. As he just came in, he may just need some time to relax. We will update adopters on his progress.
Dogs: Yes
Cats: Unknown
Housebroken: Unknown
Medical: Bo is neutered, up to date on his shots, and healthy. He
tested positive for heartworm and has received his first course of the
treatment. If Bo still tests positive for heartworm in five more
weeks, we have contracted with a vet in Plymouth to give the final shot
and follow up care for a reduced rate.
Notes: Bo is one frightened and skiddish little boy. He has been moved from a horrible pound to an animal hospital and seems to have no idea that he is safe and that no one is going to hurt him. Bo is going to need someone who is patient and that will work with him as he comes out of his shell. Many times, dogs will come to Hillcrest extremely frightened and be fine after a few days. We will update Bo's bio as appropiate.
Update: Bo is calming down quite a bit, but his adopters must know that he has a tendency to try and bite whomever is trying to give him vaccinations. He is fine otherwise, but he will need to be muzzled while receiving any shots in the near future- this may resolve once he is in a loving home, but for the safety of all vet tech and vets, we recommend that he be muzzled during his vaccinations. A muzzle is NOT APPROPRIATE at any other time.
If you would like to help Bo, but can not adopt him, please consider making a donation to go towards his heartworm treatment! Bo thanks you so very much!
